Brief Author Bio:

Originally I started NaNo on a whim. An online friend of mine encouraged me to write, because she knew I had a passion for it. I had not yet spent any great length of time pursuing my love of writing, so I did not know what I was in for. Surprisingly the first year was easy enough. My biggest difficulty was finding computers to type on, since at the time, I did not have a computer that ran well.

Now, I'm eager to feed the passion, and have not stopped for any period of time longer than a month or two. This will be my 8th novel, though this is only my 6th year as a part of NaNo. It's an amazing rush, writing.

Excerpt: The Roan Cow -No title realized yet *temp title

Collin’s eyesight was clearing up now from the blow to the head. He could see his wife. She was up a tree. Actually, now that he looked around, so was he. In fact he was at least twenty or more feet up from the ground. His wife, only a few feet up from him, was stuck in what looked like the branches of a fir tree. “How’d we get here?” He asked, under his breath as he tried to figure out how to get out of his tree and to his pregnant wife.

“I’m coming love.” He climbed as quickly as he could to her.

“Oh please hurry, I can’t hold on much longer.” Kelly’s hands were white from her grip around the branch she was steadied on, and her face was red from the strain. “Collin!”

He had finally made it up to her and was untying her shoelace, which had gotten stuck on a broken branch. This allowed her to change her weight around and relax just slightly. “I thought I was going to die!” He hugged her and then indicated that they should probably climb down from their position in the tree.

“Not quite undead yet Darling.”

He helped her the best he could, even with a splitting headache and occasional blurriness. “Almost down.“ They’d landed, arrived, or whatever in a pine tree and were about up about 30 feet from the ground below. They got to the bottom branch, and there was a 6 or so food drop. Collin jumped first, and then reached upward to his wife. “Come on, I’ll catch you if you fall.“

Kelly contemplated staying in the tree for a few moments then without warning lept into her husbands arms. He fell backward from her weight, but she arrived safely to the ground with nothing broken, and no pain. “You all right?“ Collin asked her, as he looked her over. “The baby?”

Kelly checked herself out as well. Once they were down from the precarious climb, Collin inspected his wife’s stomach. “The baby is okay, right?” He asked, looking up to her. “No damage done?”

She assured him that she hadn’t felt any pain, and that nothing had hit the area.

“Oh good.” He said with a sigh, now looking around to see if anything looked remotely familiar. “Where are we?” The area was a dense forested place, with little undergrowth. In fact, where he stood, there was very little light that reached the ground. Everything seemed like a dusky grey from ground level. He could see no trail leading to their tree (in which he figured someone might have drugged them then dropped them off), no footprints or sign of human life around. So how had they gotten into the tree, he wondered.

Kelly was also trying to figure out where they were. For her, there was a more pressing need. “I need a bathroom.” She said reluctantly. “You don’t suppose they have any toilet paper out here, do you?”

“No Darlin, I think you might be out of luck. Lets just hope its not #2.”
