Brief Author Bio:

So I'm Sian (pronounced Sian - weird I know, blame my mother who swore she wasn't going to give me an unpronounceable name).
I'm currently sixteen and getting steadily closer to being 17 which will occur in January. I'm in year 11 at school and terrified that by the end of November that will no longer be true. I'm Aussie, South Aussie to be precise (go crows!), and somewhat of a nutter though I do have some sane moments.

Synopsis:

The land was still that night. Not a breeze blew nor a bird swept. Nothing could be heard save for the gentle snores of life. In a humble stone building far away from civilisation something magnificent was occurring. A heart was beating steadily, slightly faster than usual. On the kitchen table of the stone building stood a woman garbed in an elegant midnight gown of intricate design. As the woman twisted and turned in time to the beat of the heart, the darkness grew, taking on the appearance of the nights sky. The dance wound down, ending in a graceful twirl and a hop off the table. The heart relaxed, beating in time with the land.

Mackenna has no friends, no family. The only thing she cares about is her angels, the flames. She's known throughout the town as the flame girl, famed for her dishevelled and charcoaled appearance in the early morning. If she's recognised, she's hated immediately. No chance for explanation or recompense, just contempt. There's more than one secret she's hiding that would have her jailed, flayed and likely hung and she's not even aware of them all yet. She's a practitioner of the old magic, the magic of the land. It was passed down to her through her family, never to be forgotten throughout all of time despite it's dwindling appearance to the outside world. Until she rushes to the aid of Bran, a seemingly innocent trader from a neighbouring town, she's kept in the dark about her last secret. The one that has more chance of having her killed than any other. The reason she likes to watch things burn. With Mackenna's wrath on the way, the world needs to watch out and escape. Quickly.

As shining stars walk and forgotten beasts prowl, how will a nation that couldn't bear to peak their heads above ground manage to leap out into the universe?
