Synopsis: Nano 1: Part-time Hero (A noir story)

Inspired by Quentin Tarantino, I'm doing a double-feature this year (actually I couldn't decide between the plots ;) ). So I write two stories with each 25k words.

Nano 1: Part-time Hero (working title).
Genre: Noir

Everyone knows 'The Harbor'. The worst district in town. Beside the heavy guarded landing stages, where the economy booms and giant container ship spit out their cargo 24/7, their's just violence, crime and balefulness. Only the sediment of the underclass is found here. Thugs, prostitutes, derelicts, lost.

Damian is one of them. Living in a flat, more a battered hole than anything else, addicted to alcohol, he somehow keeps to manage his life, his job and not to get devoured by the hopelessness around. Just another wrecked existence who is trying to make his way in this urban jungle. And sometimes this way is paved with guns, knifes and broken bones.

Nano 2: Chateau
Genre: Horror

France, December 1944. Near Ville de Vouziers.

2nd Lieutenant Aidan Eloyd is commanded to capture a small chateau in the western forests of the Ardennes and establish a field headquarter. So he takes a platoon and moves in. Everything is going well. No, enemies, no fights, no casualties. Then suddenly the war seems to have forgotten them. The radio keeps silent and no reinforcement arrives. Nothing is heared from the front. But something else is aware of him and his men.

Strange things happen. Soldiers are going insane and vanish in the woods, leaving only bloody tracks behind. Men start attacking each other. And there is this constant feeling of being watched all the time. Aidan needs all his professionalism and calmness not to loose the control and get his men out there safe. But as a small group of German soldiers seeks shelter in the building and refers of evil lurking around in the wood, the claustrophobic squeeze of the chateau explodes.
