Synopsis: House of Cards
The King of Spades is not just a character, the Jack of Hearts is not just a drawing, and Poker is not just a game. The Cards are as real as any human, and far more powerful than you think.
In their castle of souls, they guide humans to reach and fulfill their destinies. But somewhere along the way, they decided it wasn't enough, that humans were stupid and ignorant of life and how it should be lived. They started to take control, forcefully, of the fate of humans, making them do whatever they want, believing it to be the right thing.
As the years passed, a number of children were born, with power over their own destinies. The Cards cannot touch them, cannot make them do anything against their will. Frightened of what these children can accomplish, afraid that they could overthrow them, The Cards raise them, in their castle built of souls, to believe that humans are like animals, and need to be directed forcefully to do what should be done. And all the while, learning, trying to find a way to rid themselves of the threat once and for all.
Max is the last to be taken. While his house burns down around him, Mister Three offers him a way out, and Max takes it, not knowing that he has power enough to save himself. He grows up in the big, rambly castle, learning from the Spades and Clubs, the Hearts and the Diamonds, pressing new souls into the walls, and avoiding the Jokers, whose ringing bells and cheerful clothes frighten him more than anything.
The other children, who grew up long before, have split alliegances. There are those loyal to The Cards, and those who rebel, leaving the castle and going into hiding, determined to stop them from taking complete control of everyone.
And Max is caught in the middle, unsure what is right or wrong, not wanting any part in the conflict, but knowing he can't just sit and watch from a distance. He was the last child born with a powerful soul, and he must choose a side.
The Kings and the Queens and the Jacks are in charge of your fate. I’d treat them nicely if I were you.
