Brief Author Bio: Hey. I'm Sam. "Dear hoopoe" is the first line of Farid ud-Din Attar's "the Conference Of the Birds", which is one of my favorite poems. I usually photograph graffiti and abandoned buildings. I was born at Yale University. I don't know where most of my family is from. I think Neutral Milk Hotel's "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" is a work of genius. I have an atlas-like knowledge of Nebraska small towns and rural highways. One of my favorite things to do is to read smutty pioneer love letters at the state archives. (I also love urban exploration, which is a fancy term for "trespassing".) I'm Muslim. I wish I could speak Czech. My mother says that nothing good happens after midnight, but I beg to differ. |

Synopsis: Otherwise Bright
This is a novel about burning out and moving on.
This is a novel about daydreaming, substance abuse, road trips, trespassing, the SAT, bitter enemies, "hope, loss of", manifestos, and teenage prophets. It is about falling in love with Emerson and Kurt Cobain and your best friend and sworn enemy and people you haven't yet met. It is about utopian communities and flat tires. (It is also about horchata.)
In short, this novel is about otherwise bright children who do very stupid things.
