Synopsis: Vacant Vision
Tim Gardner is a computer genius who made his billions at the age of nineteen. For the past several years, he has lived off that money. Thanks to the internet, he's had no need to speak to a live person in seven years; all food is available over the internet, all bills can simply be deducted from his bank account. His parents died in a car accident, his sister is confined to a wheelchair. Everything he has done since December 4, 2005 has no meaning to him.
Lori Wilson is a former child prodigy violinist, deafened by meningitis. She spends every weeknight sitting in a bar, watching the band perform in complete silence. Finding the internet to be her only source of freedom from people's perceptions, she meets Tim on a gaming forum.
Enter Steve, who is hell-bent on destroying any happiness Tim can find in the world.
Excerpt: Vacant Vision
A melancholy beauty, forever trapped in a world of silence. She slouched in the corner of the bar, a bar she came to every weeknight just to watch the people. Sometimes there was a glass before her, the contents a mystery to all who watched her. The musicians kept playing, but she never heard a note. No one quite understood why she kept coming back, why she never missed a performance when she would never be able to hear what they were playing.
