Synopsis: Take Thirty-Four

I live at a desk. I have a laptop, a phone, a kiosk for storage and some fake flowers to keep things shiny and happy. I spend eight hours a day answering calls, fulfilling requests, firing off emails and trying to maintain my sanity. I stare at a computer screen for so many minutes a day, I swear I will go blind by the age of twenty-five.

I am a worker bee. I am an office stooge. The glow of fluorescent lighting makes my skin crawl and yet, I return, every day, with nothing more than an unheard grumble in the back of my mind.

I share my space with five people, and collectively, we all feel the same way. We support each other. We make snide comments to each other. We poke fun at one another. We laugh. We bitch. We ride the roller coaster of daily emotions with one another, forced together by chance.

We are the modern day, unconventional family. They know more about me than my legal parents and siblings. They feel the lows and they celebrate the highs. They know what it feels like when the rest of the world just doesn't quite understand.

This is my office family, living in our shared office apartment, working towards one goal - finding our better selves, and our chosen paths, all the while meeting deadlines, trying not to kill our superiors, and earning that next paycheque.

This is our story.
