Excerpt: Things Unsaid
Anne tenderly wrapped her fingers around her cotton handkerchief, feeling a crisp, cold breeze against her skin, chilling it and making her hair stand on end. A single tear fell from her eye and down her cheek. She wiped it with the soft cloth with its intended purpose. With her other hand she placed a single rose next to the tree.
Where it happened.
She could taste the chocolates he bought her. She smelled the sweet scent of roses that he gave to her when he rang her doorbell. The way he smiled and gently pulled her in to kiss her before they got into his truck to go out to the park. And the way he promised her they would be married someday and would live happily ever after.
20 years had passed since then.
Things had changed.
