Synopsis: Growing Up WEREWOLF!
All Quinn Mannerling wants to do is lead a normal life, but being a werewolf stops that. His family tree was cursed up to the tenth generation, that every first born child of each person in his family would become a werewolf.
Leine Mannerling stole her nephew after he was born from her brother and his wife, knowing they would never accept nor understand Quinn's uniqueness. She switched Quinn with another child born that night, who's mother had died giving birth. Stealing the winning lottery ticket from her dying boss, Leine quits her job and moves from state to state, trying to bring peace and protection for Quinn.
Quinn finds out what happened the night he was born, after accidentally killing the men looking for their nephew, who they thought was Quinn. Leine confesses to the switch, that the men were looking for the child his uncle and aunt (in reality his real parents) were raising. Quinn finds out he is the last generation to be a werewolf, so any children he might have would not have his hairy problem.
But the bodies of the men were found, and a wolf hunt is now under way. Quinn must keep the wolves safe, not draw attention to himself when he changes, and somehow stop the hunt. Hard to do when his uncle (father) shows up to investigate the killings, the girl next door is his sweetheart who's preacher father hates him, and his coach is after him to reconsider signing back up to finish running track at school. At 17, this furry boy has a lot of problems.
Excerpt: Growing Up WEREWOLF!
"The story was handed down from generation to generation. It seemed that ages ago, Rulinka's ancestor was of the royal family. I don't think he was king or something like that. Anyway, it seems her ancestor went to a gypsy camp asking for help. His wife was in painful labor, and could not deliver. The gypsies named their price, to which this ancestor agreed to pay. But once the woman delivered and both she and the child were all right, he reneged on his promise. When the gypsy came to remind him of his word, he had her whipped. In revenge she placed a curse on him. The curse was that every first born born to him and his descendants up to the tenth generation would become werewolves. He laughed at the curse, whipped her a few more times, then went home. When he got there, the household was in an uproar. It seemed his wife drowned their son, because he was covered in fur, then drowned herself. The guy was so angry, he sent troops out to the gypsy camp to bring that woman back, so she would life the curse. But where the camp had stood, there was nothing. Nothing that said a caravan stopped in that area and camped for weeks."
"So then what happened?"
"Obviously the king re-married and had children, who had children, who had their children, and so forth. And, according to Rulinka, the first born of every child turned."
