Brief Author Bio: I attended Carlsbad High School where I wrote stream of consciousness poetry, short stories, and articles for the school newspaper, The Excalibur. Then I went onto SDSU where I wanted to become an English teacher so I could instill my excitement for writing into the minds of unsuspecting youth. I got that teaching credential back in ’88, but didn’t get a job right off and felt stuck in the groove of an old skipping record with my then girlfriend. So when a friend gave me the opportunity to get out of state,…twice.. I took him up on it both times, and moved up to Seattle where I attended the UW GSLIS and became a librarian and an archivist. I have been occupied as either one or the other the last 17 years. I recently fell in with a bad crowd, my old friends, and the old dreams came back to me. That’s who I am and why I’m here. The name belongs to no one. It comes from the two main characters of the novels read by the book club for this year. I hope to personify the name by writing a novel with the foolish exuberance of the one and the dashing heroism of the other. Please enjoy my first novel and see if I have succeeded. |

Synopsis: She Doesn't Stand a Ghost of a Chance
There is a ghostly Greek isle named Cheche Exiotia where few visit but the relatives of some 25 families of squid fishermen. The son of the family that most often represents the others in selling their products to the mainlanders is sent away to college where he meets a woman, who as a surprise to everyone, is perfectly willing to move to the small island and live their unusual lifestyle. She is welcomed into "the family" and everything is wonderful until her husband tragically dies in a boating accident and she is left widowed. She continues the responsibility of selling the squid in her husband's place, but cannot bring herself to marry any of the other of the island's single fishermen.
Knowing that she must either remain alone to live on the island or move back to California in order to remarry, she vows to ponder her choice for one year, helped by the advice of the ghost of Hercules. A fantasy man or just another lost soul?
