Synopsis: The Cozy
To April, the line between fantasy and reality is clearly defined by science and common sense. Sure, she occasionally indulges in a good read like Tolkien or Rowlings, but that doesn't mean that she believes any of it. Until, quite suddenly, she finds herself in the middle of a rivalry between the Goblins and Fairy Godmothers that's going terribly wrong, in a world full of magic and oddities that seems dreadfully familiar from the stories that her cousin told when she was small.
Still, she's sure that there must be a scientific explanation somewhere to help her cope with the fact that she's been dumped into the care of a half-gargoyle intent on saving a world that doesn't yet know it's in danger.
Excerpt: The Cozy
“Magic works because of science?” April asked, completely entranced by the idea.
“Of course it does. Back home we think of magic as superstitious or trickery or impossible and so it has nothing to do with science – in a lot of ways it’s the antithesis of science. Here, though, magic is real, an actual part of people’s lives and the fabric of this universe. Science is the study of the universe – whatever universe you happen to be in – and so, here, science can explain magic.”
There was a pause.
“Cool.” April wished she had something more intelligent to say, but that really seemed to sum it up.
Miller grinned.
