Brief Author Bio: I work as a freelance writer and editor because I thought that would allow me some freedom and time to write creatively, also. It sort of works, but I'm still writing toward that first published novel. And I do love my work as a journalist -- interviewing people, learning about new things and writing it all up into feature articles for newspapers, magazines and nonprofits. My first book, Yes! I Am Catholic, was published in 2007 and this fall I have an essay in the newly released A Cup of Comfort for Breast Cancer Survivors. I also teach writing and offer a mentoring program in writers in which I "coach" them toward reaching their goals. I started a blog this year at www.goodnessofthegarden.blogspot.com. |

Synopsis:
Mandy Daniels has scoliosus and in 1974 that means a four-month hospital stay, surgery to insert a rod into her back, and nine months of recovery in a body cast. But Mandy doesn't mind; she's already heard taunting from her classmates about the "wing" on her back. With the decision to operate, Mandy can escape from her classmates, get her spine straightened for good and have her first taste of independence on a hospital ward with other girls who also aren't perfect.
