Synopsis: Forming a War Mage

When Shari's mother dies in a tragic fire, he finds himself left alone with his sister to take care of. As they set out into the world, Shari's life seems to be nothing but a blur of uncertainty. But will Shari find someone willing to not only help him, but propel him toward a world of magic he never believed existed?

She only gripped his hand more tightly and then released him. “Your sister, Sharian! Now!”

Because he wanted nothing more than to soothe her, Shari nodded. “I’ll find her, Mama, don’t worry,” he promised. Then he began to shuffle through the house again, calling for his sister in earnest.

The heat from the rising flames was unbearably hot by the time he heard Kaelyn’s whisper of a voice. “Come on, Kaelyn,” he murmured as he pulled her to her feet. “It’s time to go.”

“Mama…What about Mama?” she pleaded. “We can’t leave without her. Swear you won’t leave without her…”

“I swear, but we have to leave.” Gently coaxing his sister to her feet, he managed to bring her outside. She protested every bit of the way, but he made sure she was safe within his tunnels before he turned back to their home. “Stay here, Kaelyn. I’ll be back once I find Mama again.”

But the moment he took a step, the house gave an almighty groan. He watched in horror as the roof bowed into itself, trembled, and gave. Their home was gone in a matter of seconds.

Their mother was gone in a matter of seconds.
