Excerpt:

The forest was quiet – there was not even a gush of wind blowing through it. The wolf standing up on the high rock formation in the middle of the forest raised his head, its ears pointed straight up. He tilted his head slightly, listening intently. Then he growled softly as he turned his head to his right, watching and waiting.
The dark shape of an eagle suddenly emerged from out of the confines of the forest, its large wings widely spread out as it soared down towards the rocks. Tensing all of his muscles the wolf braced himself, lowering his head but never taking his eyes off the eagle. With a loud screech the eagle extended its claws towards the wolf, clearly intending to attack and wound. However, before the eagle could even touch him the wolf jumped to the side, dodging the mean deadly claws, before jumping unto the eagle’s back. Opening his jaws wide he bit down into its neck, effectively breaking it and forcing it to crash down on the rocks with a sickening crack. Launched by the impact the wolf let out a pained yelp as it landed a few feet away from the eagle, his front paw snapping under his own body weight.
For a moment neither figure moved, and the forest was completely quiet once again. Then the wolf slowly raised his head, a low growl in his throat. Scrambling up to his feet he softly squeaked as he tried to stand on his wounded front leg. Raising it up high he folded it under his chest, raising himself up on his three good legs instead. Then he froze and sniffed. His eyes darted in his head and again he let out a low growl before quickly scrambling away from the dead eagle. He made his way down the rock formation, barely being able to keep himself from growling whenever his broken paw came into contact with something. Slightly turning himself he checked behind him to see if nothing or nobody was following him, before making his way into the bushes surrounding the rocks and lying down there, placing his wounded paw out in front of him and his head on his good leg. There he waited. They would be here shortly, and in his present condition he would be no match to them. So he waited, and he hid.
