Excerpt: Karma
The night was dark, and a light fog began to slowly creep over the ground. The year was 1842. The location, London. Two cloaked figures walked silently through the night, their heads covered in shadows by the hood of their cloaks. The one of the left was a bit larger then the person on the right, and they stepped very heavily wearing large black steel toed boots, while the other on the right, walked more carefully, watching for puddles, and wearing much more fashionable boots with straps that wrapped up the ankle. Both though, were dressed in all black.
“Are you sure this couldn’t have waited another 10 minutes, you could have at least let me rinse my hair.”
The one on the right said in a female voice.
“No.”
Growled the person on the left, obviously male, and definitely upset.
“Well can you at least tell me where we are headed, I think I have a right to know, seeing as this is my job as well. Not just yours Lu.”
The women said, as she hurriedly followed the man as he turned and weaved down back alleys with out even a word. The women waited a bit for a reply, then gave a deep sigh and began to braid her slightly damp and soapy hair. Then suddenly Lu stopped about ten paces away from a very small two story, and very decrepit house. The girl, braiding her hair, didn’t notice that Lu had stopped until she walked right into his back.
“Will yo-“
But before she could get another word out Lu turned so quick and so quietly covering the girls mouth she tried to jump back. But Lu was still able to grab her and pull her in close his hand still over her mouth, as he whispered to her.
“De, if there was ever a time for you to shut up and do as I say now is the time.”
De’s now v shaped brow made it apparent that she did not care to have her mouth covered, and so she attempted to bit his hand so that he would remove it. She succeeded at biting Lu but he gave no sign of pain, only irritation.
“De, I know your Mother taught you better than that!”
He whispered angrily at her giving her a slight shake.
“Now stop acting like a child and listen to me.”
He said, as his eyes darted back and forth between De and the old building.
“In that building is a man, who has raped and murdered multiple women; who are still in the house as well. And I want to get at him before the London Police carry him off. Do you understand me?”
De’s eyes were now fixed on the old building, tears welling up in the corners of her eyes. Lu looked at her.
“De..”
He whispered, a hint of sadness in his once angry voice.
“This is what we do De, now we can sit here and morn for the losses of the women inside or.”
He cut off his sentence, quickly turning around to the sound of something being thrown against the wall in the old house. He then turned back to De taking his hand off her mouth and looking her in the eyes said
“Or we can give adequate justice to those who died tonight.”
And with that he ran off toward the house dropping his cloak on the wet ground out side the door and De watched as two horns began to grow out of Lus forehead as he stepped into the building. De couldn’t see anything but she could her the man inside screaming, but within seconds of the mans blood curtailing scream, the alley was silent once more. De knew though, that the man was not dead, Lu had just put a sound barrier spell around the house so that any passerby’s that might want to help a screaming man would not come running in and spoiling his fun. De breathed in a deep breath before she started to walk towards the house, she picked up Lus cloak on her way in. And as soon as she stepped inside the house the screams of agony and cries of mercy filled the building and rang in her ears.
