Brief Author Bio: Abhinav Maurya is a freelance writer and computer technologist based in Bombay. He has been a member of The Association of Freelance Writers, England and is currently under the tutelage of the best-selling author Simon Whaley. He has been the editor for an in-house magazine in the past, and is currently a part of Writer's Side, a writing assessment and critiquing service and Kanishka Gupta's brainchild. His work has appeared in Urban Voices (an anthology of short stories based on Bombay), JLT (a youth magazine), and Thane Plus (a supplement of The Times Of India). Besides he has worked on a number of freelance projects regarding literature and technology. His pitch for the novel A Cure For The Doctor won in the first Book Pitch Contest, and his essay Ruminations On The Death Of The Essay was a runner-up in the Flash Essay Contest, both organized by Caferati on behalf of the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival-2008. He has been a reporter for The Kala Ghoda Gazette and is a member of Caferati, a community of Indian writers spread across the globe. His personal blog has won Best Blog Of The Day Award and Bloggy Award. Besides blogging on his personal weblog, he contributes to Read The Nobels (a blog which reviews works by Nobel Laureates), and Bookers (a blog about books that have won the Man-Booker). He ruminates on politics (though not often) at Mutiny (India's largest political collablog). Abhinav dabbles in both art and technology, and shall do so until he finds out why he is not good at both. He does not mind being a human being, though he thinks that being a bird or a fish would better for his health and his soul. Leading parallel lives as a techie and a writer, Abhinav believes in living life as if it were a book, the beautiful equanimity of its script unmarred by the event and incident embodied in the words. He believes that the pursuit of truth is more noble and precious than the truth itself. There is great possibility of him calling you a freak, if he finds out that life doesn't freak you in the least. He loves books, music, tea and his blog, and spends a fanatical amount of time with the four of them. Except for advertisements, news and the occasional arthouse movie, he pretty much hates everything on Indian television, and nods his head almost instinctively when it is called an idiot-box. He loves having intricately sensible conversations that may set forth something of precious value or confounding intrigue for him. He is averse to small talk. Finally, he loves to be proved wrong. May you forgive him if you ever happen to bump into this poor guy. |
