Synopsis: Waking Dreams, an Urban Fantasy Novel
Laurie went through the life she was given and made her own mark on it. Especially after catching her boyfriend with someone else. She never hesitated to let people know what she thought of them and the only person who she really ranted to was her cousin Natasha.
Imagine her surprise when she goes to sleep and appears in another world where things are so very different from the modern world. Laurie doesn't think anything of it, after all it's just a dream.
At least until her cousin disappears and there has been someone who looks like her in the dream world. Memories of her cousin disappear from even her family's memories.
Things aren't what they seem and dream worlds are amazingly real. Laurie needs to go down the rabbit hole to rescue her cousin.
Excerpt: Waking Dreams, an Urban Fantasy Novel
It reached out to her, the grin fading as finger claws reached out to her, staring at her tongue and lips. “Pretty?” The voice was hoarse, as if it had a cold. “Pretty…”
She eyeballed it warily, taking a few more steps back. “H.hello?” Her tongue came out, sliding over her lower lip.
The hand of the creature fell even as it’s eyes narrowed, small slits in the head, shape only seen for the color behind it. Legs tensed as it jumped, landing on a branch just above Laurie’s head reaching out quickly towards her face. “…pretty…”
Iesin can come back ANYTIME now. She jerked back. “Umm…I guess so. You have a name?”
That grisly smile again. There was nothing friendly about its smile. Merely the smile of a predator who had new prey. It’s emaciated arm reached out and passed it’s fingers through her jaw, leaving a cold trail of winter behind.
Her eyes widened as pain exploded in her jaw. It felt like her tongue had been ripped out. She could taste the copper bitterness of the blood. Her eyes clenched shut and she bent over, hands clamped over her mouth before she reached out to smack the creature from its perch. Her hand passed through as there was nothing there, at least tangible. Her throat was on fire, as if she had swallowed an entire pot of hot water without letting it to cool. Her voice screamed, it echoed down so that even Amy could hear it through the branches and the dirt before it was cut off.
It was muted where Laurie stood, but it wasn’t coming from her. There was a growing light in the creature’s fist that was swallowed up into the transparent body. The next sound it made was the one she had heard, the screeching cat and chalk board sound. It was a horrendous sound up close. This time she could hear other voices that belonged to other creatures, other people, wailing at what was stolen.
“Pretty…” It cooed with her voice, echoed with another. It was content with it’s newfound prize, like a child that had gotten the toy that had caught it’s attention and had screamed and shouted for.
Laurie stared at the creature, falling onto the ground. What the hell was that thing? What did it do to her? She was going to be sick.
