Synopsis: The Christmas Contract

A brotherhood of monks dating to the 4th century keeps a sacred pact to care for the needs of a single member and assist in his work throughout the centuries to battle evil and atone for his own sin by protecting children from one who would steal their young souls.

Excerpt: The Christmas Contract

The task must be completed by the Winter Solstice. Every year it had been the same. Every time the days began to shorten, Brother Stephen's heart began to sink, knowing that he was one of only three in their brotherhood who knew the path, the purpose, and the final destination of this yearly mission. This year it was decided that another of their brotherhood must be brought into their small circle of confidence. Brother Lucius was aging, and poor health prevented his lot from entering the draw this season. From the younger monks Brother Marcus had been chosen as one whose dedication to the brotherhood and whose devotion to love and good works stood out among his fellows. It was necessary, though to delay a full explanation of their pilgrimage until the team passed the midway mark on their journey. Only then would their steps be so committed that turning back without completing their mission would be folly.
