Synopsis: Argentum - Book One of The Violet War

Set in modern-day times in the mid-western United States, Sophie Miller is an exile from the magical community who committed a horrible crime. A prisoner of an Alchemist for five years with little-to-no memory of her former life, she stumbles back into her former home and begs to rejoin it. Sophie is then tasked with the impossible: In order to regain her memories and return home, she must round up renegade gods, goddesses and magical creatures and bring them to The Sanctuary, an underground safehouse/prison the Alchemists formed of magical metals.

What happens if Sophie is unsuccessful? Who are the Alchemists and how dangerous are they?

Prior to NaNoWriMo, six chapters of the novel have already been written. You can read more about Argentum, Book One of the Violet War series here: http://www.violetwar.com/book-one/

Excerpt: Argentum - Book One of The Violet War

The flight to the Sanctuary is more like a glide than anything else; Huginn’s soft, ebony wings are meant for flying high in the air, not underground in a dank, poorly-lit cavern. We land just outside a series of silvery towers that continue to emit a strange, blue light. Huginn refuses to help me find the Sanctuary’s entrance–he’s afraid I’ll wind up dead.

“Just take me inside, Huginn.” Part of me wants to get the truth out in the open, to maybe apologize to these creatures. That is, if an apology would suffice. The other part of me still can’t believe that I’m capable of killing anyone or anything and wants proof.

“And I’m telling you, Sophie, it’s not that easy. You can’t just walk into a place like this,” Huginn argues with me. It seems like the angrier he gets the more feathers he molts. “The Sanctuary is filled with the last, remaining creatures of their kind. Please try to understand, Sophie, this place is sacred and you tainted it. I can’t just walk–”

“Then let me go,” I yell at him, frustrated and annoyed and anxious with the whole situation. “Maybe you have to understand, that I have no idea what the hell is going on. I have no idea what is real–even if you’re real–or if I’m making this all up.”
