Synopsis: The Dream Artist
Persephone Scattergood is a mistreated orphan of sixteen. After a long unsuccessful day of job hunting she returns home to find that her adoptive family has sold her to The Master of the strange and mysterious mansion, which sits on the outskirts of the city. Rumors abound about the terrible things that occur in The Mansion, but Persephone finds herself out of options and so she agrees to go. Once there she learns that she has been hired for her story telling abilities. Persephone will work as a writer, composing dreams that will give the people of the city hope. She finds herself happy and content in her new life until she learns the truth about her past and begins to participate in an ill-conceived plot for revenge.
Excerpt: The Dream Artist
The people of Linus stopped dreaming, and thus they were utterly miserable. For dreams give breath to the creative soul, creativity gives birth to new ideas and new ideas produce change. Without dreams there is no change and so their lives were like a stagnant pond. Stinking sludge floated in their brains.
