Synopsis: The Warrior's Secret

Synopsis:
In the land of Vladimria things are changing. The king is suspected of going mad since his late wife's death, the poor people are rebelling, and the kings soldiers, and lords, are continuing to become more and more corrupted. From burning entire towns for no "apparent" reason, to raiding farms in the name of the king and for his profit. But in the midst of this chaos there is a boy who has the power to change it all, for better or for worse, though he may not yet know it. His name is Demetrius, and after he escapes the destruction of his home, and even death itself, he realizes that he is alone in the world, and his family had perished when his home-town was burned. Demetrius vows to avenge his family's deaths, which is a vow that may bring him to his self-destruction if he is not careful, but when he is distracted on his quest by an old man lying on the side of the road, a little twist comes along in Demetrius' tale. When Demetrius rescues the old man he is shocked to find that he is not what he seems. And when the disguise is removed the “old man” is really the famed warrior of old…Teirian. Teirian senses that Demetrius has a good and loyal heart even if he lusts for revenge. And so he takes him under his wing so to speak, and teaches him how to fight with a sword and bow and arrow, and how to travel stealthily, how to determine the weather, and time, how to hunt, and when to fight, all that Demetrius would be a warrior with honor and reputation. And under Teirian’s guidance, and protection, Demetrius flourishes, and grows into a warrior, who is respected and loved by the people. Unfortunately, after four years have passed, Teirian's strength begins to fail him and within a week he dies, leaving Demetrius, once again alone. But not without a secret he revealed to him. Just before he dies Teirian tells him of a thing in which all have lost faith, save him. It is the strange belief that a divine being created the world and sent his son to save the people which he had created. Demetrius is intrigued, and he wishes to know more about this strange new belief, so, Teirian, with his dying breath, tells him of a quest which Demetrius must complete if he wishes to know more. Now that Demetrius, a sixteen year old warrior with no home and no family or friends, is alone again he realizes that he must learn once again to survive on his own in a world where war is brewing. Forgetting about his quest for the time being, he wants to fight but which side must Demetrius choose? The poor common folk fight for their freedom, but also for revenge. And the King and his men fight for dominion over the world, and the elves remained neutral…For the time being at least. In the end Demetrius takes the side of the poor because the remembrance of his family renews the passion for revenge in his heart. But there is only one problem, Demetrius has fallen in love with a girl his own age named Karina and she strongly opposes him fighting for the cause of revenge in which she does not believe. Demetrius is torn. As time goes on Demetrius fights for the cause of the poor common folk against the better judgment of Karina, and as Demetrius gradually gains the trust and loyalty of the people he eventually becomes their leader. A few weeks later however an old prophet appears in Demetrius’ tent the day before the final battle, and warns Demetrius of his fate, and he also leaves a prophecy telling of his own destruction if does not change his ways…And his heart, and complete the quest that Einar gave him before it is too late. Will Demetrius discover the Warrior’s secret? Will he complete the quest? Or will he fall into the false belief that revenge will justify his actions? Deep within the heart of the Vladimrian forests, the elves are remaining neutral, but they will not last long and so their queen, Brynn, begins to prepare for battle. As war draws nearer, Brynn’s people are sustained by the hope that the Minotaurs will emerge from hiding, and come to their aid, but the people have forgotten that the Minotaurs fight for no one. But as the people anticipate something that cannot come into being, the fauns and the dwarves have reached an agreement in secrecy. Within the walls of the Gravein Quir a creature is held captive, no one knows what it is or what it can do except the dwarves and the fauns, what they will do with it depends on the elves. But war is only the least of Brynn’s troubles. Months after her father, and brother’s deaths, a secret about Brynn’s past is unearthed and she finds that her heritage is not what she thinks. As Vladimria’s skies grow darker with the passing time a spark of hope is lit in the north. Hope is renewed as the Centaurs return from their exile across the sea. Will the elves aid Demetrius? Or will the stay in hiding until they are killed or driven out? And will Brynn make the right choice? And will she overcome her personal struggle? Find out when book one, “The Warrior’s Secret” is finis’!

Excerpt: The Warrior's Secret

Prologue Fire, it burns, kills, razes. Fire cannot be tamed, it is like the wild beast which chases its prey and destroys anything in its path. Fire is what ruined the home, and killed the family of a little ten year old boy who watched as it all went up in flames from afar. Demetrius stood on briare hill, a large grassy hill standing one mile from his home-town, Arden, and watched as soldiers surrounded the city and burned it to the ground. His family, his parents, Drago, and Mereina, and his sister, Briela, were dead, and he was alone in the world. A warm breeze blew his jet black wavy hair, and smoke stung his eyes, but that was not causing the tears streaking down his dirty face. Demetrius, after watching his home, with, quite possibly his family inside, burn to the ground, was suffering such a blow to his heart that it was almost unbearable to see. But Demetrius was not devoid of reason, and unfortunately he was using what little reason he had left to swear an oath that might cause his personal destruction. Demetrius’ eyes now burned with hatred, and his heart likewise, but his heart also burned for revenge. The oath Demetrius swore, was the oath to avenge his family… And the oath Demetrius swore was one that might destroy him.
…..
Many leagues away, in eastern Vladimria~
It was dark, very dark. But inside the network of caves hidden in the mountains of Amran many fires were burning, and the flames lit their dark interiors. Inside the main Cave, called “Ravin Quir,” Dwarves and Fauns gathered around a fire in its centre to discuss an extremely important matter; a matter that could change the future of Vladimria, and possibly end the upcoming war sooner than expected. “We must release it on our enemies! The time is ripe, friends, to attack!” shouted Throndier, a Dwarven Lord who remained very prominent amongst his people, he was well respected, although he sometimes let his temper get the best of him which would, ever so often, cloud his judgment. Throndier was a member of the twelve Dwarven war-lords who led the troops into battle, he was a very ruff personage and he was not well liked although he was the dwarves’ strongest man. The listeners gasped. “But we have no supplies! No general or leader! How can we defeat the King’s army of ten thousand strong?” Replied a Faun, who rose and walked nearer to Throndier shaking his fists angrily as he spoke, “Throndier, if you are truly the man of wisdom that your people boast of tell me; why do you wish to start a war before we are truly ready?” “I will explain all in good time!”Replied Throndier loudly, “But you must listen, and ask no questions.” A murmur went throughout the crowd, some rose and left, others stayed but they looked rather uneasy. Another of the dwarf lords stood up. “Our respected, and wise Throndier has been chosen for our leader, and the supplies will be gathered in due time, but for now we must all concentrate on preparing an army for the upcoming war.” He turned to the Faun who had spoken, “As for you, you and your people are in need of a leader as well, so I suggest you cast a vote as soon as possible.” The Faun returned to his place silently. The Dwarf cleared his throat. “And you Throndier, I believe your anger has clouded your judgment, you know as well as I do that we cannot attack until our weapon is complete, and fully formed.” Throndier sat down with a slightly annoyed expression on his bearded features, but he said no more. But the other Lord remained standing. Another of the Fauns stood up; presumably he was a king for he was garbed in blue, a color reserved for royalty among their clans. “Muirod, my friend, I have not simply come to represent my people, I have also come to share with you a proposition, which, I believe, will aid us in our efforts to defeat our enemies.” He said, speaking to the Dwarf lord standing in front of him. “A proposition?” Muirod asked, his bushy eyebrows shooting up in surprise. “Yes. If we are to defeat the men’s King and bring peace to Vladimria we must have help. Our armies put together are not enough, I have taken a census and our numbers are far less than that of the King’s---.” “Tell me Fleequin, my friend, what exactly are you proposing?” interrupted Muirod. “If you would let me speak without interruption then perhaps I might be able to reach the proposition.” Replied Fleequin, slightly irritated, “Now to the point. If we cannot defeat the King ourselves then why not seek out anyone else who would agree to our cause?” Muirod was silent for a moment, apparently lost in thought. “Yes, but who might we ask without drawing the King’s attention?” he inquired. “I have messengers who know all the locations of trustworthy races,” replied Fleequin, “And there are a great many too.” “I see. Very well, send out your messengers to whomever might aid us in our quest, and for the sake of your people’s lives, do not fail.”
