Synopsis: What Remains Is All That Remains
An emergency evacuation is ordered in the small city of Fairfield, Ohio. During the evacuation, Shelly Wexwax is forced to retrieve the family dog, causing her and the dog to be left behind in the empty city. However, a few days later, Shelly begins to doubt that she and the dog she hates so much are completely alone. She explores the future ghost city, raiding empty houses until she finally comes upon a group who has already banded together to survive. It has been proven without electricity it is nearly impossible to live anymore, of which Shelly has already discovered.
Meanwhile, Shelly is enticed by a young man, who goes by the name of “Chain”, and refuses to reveal his birth name. He and his brother, Jack, have been orphans since Chain was 10 years old, considering that he is eighteen. Despite Shelly’s tomboy interests, her more romantic side is starting to show.
Shelly, together with her group of survivors, must find why the town was abandoned like such, and why.
Excerpt: What Remains Is All That Remains
I strode slowly up the driveway that was free from the powder blue Prius. I opened the door, and closed it again once Tinkerbelle and I were both inside. I reached to turn on the lights in the kitchen, but nothing happened. I looked up to check the time on the clock on the microwave. The time wasn’t displayed, it was simply blank. I rushed to the sink, and turn on the cold water. Nothing was coming from the faucet. I turned the cold off, and turned the hot handle instead. Nothing. I turned them both. Still, no water appeared. Not even a small stream. If there was anything, it was microscopic.
I slumped against the wall. The city must’ve turned off the electricity and the water. Suddenly, I realized that I may be trapped in this city for quite a bit longer than I thought I might be. I could be here for days, week. Not the few hours I thought I may be originally.
