Excerpt: The Mystics

"Long ago, before humans roamed the earth, mystical creatures, which we current legends have dubbed Legends, such as mermaids, faeries, and dragons controlled the land. Life at that time was fairly peaceful. But after a while, different species of creatures fell in love with one another and wanted to live their lives together.
“They searched long and tirelessly for the phoenix, also known as the wish-giver. When they found him, they begged him to make it possible for them to have the ability reproduce and live their lives on however they wished. However, when the phoenix grants a wish, there are sacrifices involved. To grant their wish, they had to be willing to lose their powers and become weak. Their love was so great that they agreed, and they were turned into what would become the first human beings to walk the earth.
“After a few centuries, the descendants of those beings had lost their connection to their Legend ancestors. They reproduced and lived much shorter than the Legends, yet that was the cause for their rapidly-expanding numbers. But being weaker than the other creatures, they felt threatened and began to siege on the Legends. The Legends were too peaceful to fight back against such pitiable creatures so they turned to the Phoenix.
“They asked the Phoenix for a solution. They wanted to live upon the earth without being found by the humans, someplace they were safe. The Phoenix would only grant the wish if they were willing to sacrifice their powers to another and give up living life as their own creature. They agreed and they were made into ever-lasting souls that the Phoenix placed inside the bodies of the newly-born humans. Thus, the first Mystics were born.
“But with powers like that, even the humans couldn't hide from their own kind. They were discovered and banished from their tribes. This wasn't good enough for all of the humans though, and groups would band together and track down the banished Mystics and kill them. Those would be the first Hunters, the ones who started the bloodshed. Ever since, the group has grown to amazing proportions, but their goal has never changed. They wish to completely wipe every Mystic off of the earth. They've even got their members believing that every Mystic that exists is pure evil and deserves to be destroyed before it 'causes harm to humanity.'”
