Brief Author Bio: I grew up writing short stories and poems but never thought much of it. It was something I liked to do but I didn't take it too seriously. About two years ago, I moved to a new town and knew absolutely no one. I knew that if I wanted make new friends, the best way would be to go out there and meet people who had the same interests as me. I found a local writing group and started going to the meetings, completing a writing exercise here, a short story there. Then, one day, someone brought up National Novel Writing Month and told me all about it. A novel...in a month? You must be crazy. I thought about it. I'd always written short stories but as it goes, the older I got, the more I had to say. A novel seemed like a great step for me but doesn't it take, like, your whole life to write a novel? Then the more I found out, the more I was surprised that writing a novel isn't as scary as it sounds. Yes, even I could do it. Now I write regularly, rarely allowing a couple of days to pass without getting at least a chapter under my belt and I couldn't be happier. So it turned out that I was right--they were crazy--I just decided to be crazy right along with them. 2008 - Gowan Cabin (Women's Fiction): I completed my first novel! 50,184 words during NaNoWriMo and another 30,000 word outside of it. I completed three drafts and finished at the beginning of September 2009. |
