Synopsis: Vivid and Anatoly
After a series of unscrupulous government decisions, the US tumbles into Civil War. The Revolters- the citizens, the people who believe in the Constitution and love thier country fight the seemingly omnipotent Government. Thier weapons of choice? Humanoid androids- both for the Government (Chronomatons) and the Revolters (Anachromatons). Somewhere within all of this, the Government creates a set of androids with very human anatomy- even an enhanced human brain. These are called VIVIDs, and thier 'flawless recon plan' of using VIVIDs to kill human Revolters the human way backfires when the Government discovers that the VIVIDs have been befriending and protecting the beings in which they were created to destroy.
The VIVIDs are sent into a suicide battle- there are no human survivers, some Anachromatons walk away, but only one VIVID remains- 0837. Once awake, 0837 realizes his chip has been somehow dislodged or destroyed, and he can think freely. He is woken by a rogue doctor- an apathetic, cynical man named Anatoly. Anatoly is a member of a group of neutrals- The Scavengers, whose goal and duty is to collect information on the events unfolding to prevent them from happening again. 0837, now simply called 'Vivid', joins this group, and as he learns about the truth and the past, he also learns what exactly it means to be human.
Excerpt: Vivid and Anatoly
"Are you alive?"
The thing lying helplessly on the ground, its skin slashed, but there was no blood- its limpid eyes- eyes like french doors opening up to a dark countryside its only illumination being a sliver of shrouded moon- opened, and were met with a pair of eyes the color of ripe pears, the eyes of a man who had seen too much.
"Are you human?" the crisp voice of the man, whom to the creature below him seemed fuzzy- a hazy blur on the landscape of its vision.
The question was repeated three more times. The being calculated one per every 6.43 seconds. The delayed message reached its brain the third time.
"What is human?"
The man's abstract mouth curled into a twisted smile.
"Homo Sapien."
The creature remained silent. It couldnt' make out its surroundings. Everything except the pale skin of the inquisitive man was gray to it.
"I am VIVID-0837." it replied in a tinny, drone of a voice. It's vocal cords were dislodged.
"A machine then." The man above him noted to himself.
"What are you?" the 'machine' asked, its eyes taking a more curious shade of black.
"I am Anatoly."
"Are you human?"
The man gave a wry smile. "You know, I wonder these days."
