Excerpt: Two's A Crowd
Gregor's head exploded, shattering into dust. What Josiah had seen as a red aura began taking to grow. Tendrils rising from the body collected in a cloud that hovered atop the grave. The cloud eventually took the form of a man, walked towards Josiah. Thoroughly confused and frightened – he'd never seen a 9mm bullet make anything other than a block of ice explode, and now a ghost? - he fired his clip empty.
The crimson man-cloud approached so close that he could see the face clearly, sad eyes, mouth downturned and half open as if crying. The heat on his face was almost unbearable. It stared so deeply into Josiah's eyes that he'd swear upon his deathbed that it had stared straight into his very soul, or rather would have if he'd ever admit to having the experience. Presently, its luminescence was in his face no longer, racing a serpentine path not too far above the ground and out of the construction site.
Josiah blinked. He couldn't see the light of it anymore. Did I see it at all?
