Excerpt: untitled
Gifts, passed down through family members, are something that everyone has. As much as you get your hair colour and eye colour from you family, gifts work the same way. Uncle Joe’s family, for example, had strength from his mother and a special skill with cooking from his father. Oftentimes, you get one or the other, and you keep the name of the parent that you got your gift from. Uncle Joe is one of the rare few who has both, even if he only has a small gift for cooking, he’s really, really strong. He could lift a horse if he had the inclination to.
And Macie, she could feel and influence people’s emotions. Calming people down is her specialty, but when she got angry, she had a tendency to make the people around her angry too. She doesn’t get angry often though. She won’t tell me what her dad’s gift was; only saying that she was grateful for the gift she has.
Alvie has a gift with animals; he can get the most stubborn mule to be obedient… only, he has a tendency to bring animals home with him. All animals. We have about 10 cats at the moment, and 3 dogs. One time, a sir…sirky… oh! A circus, that’s the word, a circus came to the town, setting up in the town square for a week or so, and Alvie somehow came back from a show with a large animal he said was called a Hippo. It kept eating the plants around the house, so Macie sent him back pretty quickly.
I don’t have a clue about what my gift could be. I can hear really well, and I’m pretty sure that the thumps around me are heartbeats, but no one else has that gift, and no one else looks remotely like me.
