Synopsis: Death's Messengers
Mitchel's dead. It's unfortunate, but it's true. And, by sheer luck, he's discovered what people have been hoping for centuries exists: an afterlife. It might be an afterlife that only nine people can inhabit at any given time, but it's an afterlife.
He hasn't been living his second life for more than ten minutes before he realizes there's a catch. He has to become one of Death's Messengers, and collect the souls of all those who die on Earth. It's a pretty busy job, and the fact that there's a homicidal demon child who wants to destroy the world doesn't make things any easier.
Excerpt: Death's Messengers
"You're dead. Now open your eyes."
Mitchel's eyes struggled open upon hearing the unfamiliar voice. All at once, he wanted to close them again. Everything was grey. The grass, the sky, the river in front of him...everything was dead. Lifeless. Was this the Heaven his parents had always talked about? If it was, they had better stop believing right now, because there was nothing beautiful worth seeing here.
"No," the voice said, making Mitchel jump. "Not Heaven. This is Death's Realm. And since you're here, that makes you one of Death's Messengers. Congratulations."
