Brief Author Bio:

I'm a senior in HS, I love playing an online game called Guild Wars, and the 2009 NaNoWriMo is the first one i've participated in. I have a tendency of getting severe cases of writer's block though, so I actually have two different plots prepared for this to prevent my NaNo-ing from being hindered due to writer's block.

Synopsis: Firehouse Secret and Asterami Isle

Firehouse Secret

Dennis Schaumberg, a very successful attorney, was taken away on a case that had been appealed to the Supreme Court shortly after his baby girl, Corina, had be borne to him and his wife, Laura. Laura's brother came over to help out while Dennis was away, and their upstairs neighbors, Rachel and Colin Barkley, who had a baby boy, Lee, who was a few months older than Corina, helped out when they could as well.

However, one night Rachel and Colin went out with Lee, but forgot to snuff all of their candles. The candle was knocked over by their cat and set the entire building aflame with an explosion when the flame reached the gas lines going up to the stove.

When Dennis came home to find his wife and baby dead, he was depressed. His work started slacking and he started losing cases, something that had never happened to him. A few months after the fire, he came up with an idea that snapped him out of his depression.

A few months after her brother's apartment burned down, Megan Barkley noticed there was a drastic increase in the number of abandoned building fires. Not entirely convinced with the police's conclusion that they were just old buildings and that the fire was accidental, she and her best friend, William Rutger, started their own investigations of the fires under the ruse of a school paper. They noticed things that the police didn't, pointing to arson.

When they figure out, after six abandoned building blazes, that Rachel, Colin, Lee, and the rest of the Barkleys are the next targets, William and Megan need to find out, as quickly as possible, who is behind the fires so they can stop the person before Megan's family gets hurt.

Will they piece together the clues in time? Or will Megan see her family go down in a rain of fire?

Asterami Isle

Leah Hunter is thinking of long days spent in the sun and fun with her best friend, Raymond Willard, when she puts about fifty entries into a contest in which the prize is an all-expense paid vacation to an island paradise, Asterami Isle. Asterami Isle is located about 100 miles north of Honolulu, Hawaii, and is just as warm.

The excitement she feels when she wins and she, her sister, her mother, her father, Raymond, and her sister's best friend get to go on vacation wanes shortly after they arrive. They all get split up, her sister and her friend go to a hotel on the west of the island, her parents at the north end, and she and Raymond on the south.

As a relaxing island vacation turns into a hectic adventure on an island filled with scientific experiments from Hell, it is up to Leah and Raymond to watch each other's backs as well as that of Leah's family and another family rescued from the grasp of the evil hotels. However, when they find themselves facing the most dangerous and vicious experiment of them all, X6470, codename Asterami, the island's namesake, surviving their island escape seems a more and more unlikely happening.

Will they live to tell the tale of Asterami Isle? Or will they fall into Asterami's grasp?

Prologue

He had to get out of there! He kept running though his legs were numb and his lungs burned from lack of air. He had to save his little brother! His parents! When he'd entered his family into that hell of a vacation contest, he hadn't expected Hell to be the vacation destination! But in this hotel that they said was made for teenagers, he had to admit that was exactly where he was. The floors had trapdoors that opened downward unexpectedly, food and water that was good mixed with poisoned food and water with a riddle so as to solve it to know which was which. Needless to say, there had been a meal or two that he had gone hungry and thirsty because of them.

But he had to find a way OUT! He couldn't allow his parents to become fish food an his brother brainwashed.

He pulled his matted black hair out of his sky blue eyes. There had to be SOME way out! He yelled as a trapdoor portion of the floor opened under his weight and he fell through not one, but two stories. He heard two loud snaps when he landed on his feet and promptly fell over, his legs bent at unnatural angles. He saw a pile of blankets in the corner of the cold room and pulled himself over tho them.

"You thought you could escape the inevitable, Ethan Reynard?" a deep, laughing voice penetrated the room from the dark opposite corner. Ethan looked up and cringed back from the man, whom he immediately recognized. This was Renik Goldblum, the person who hosted the vacation competition. His blue eyes, which had looked warm and inviting when he first saw him shortly after he and his family arrived, now looked cool and vicious.

"You'll not get away with this," Ethan spat, trying unsuccessfully to sound hard and mean through the pain shooting up from his legs.

"But I already have in the past, I am now, and I will again in the future," Renik taunted, throwing four seperate pieces of paper at Ethan before stalking off. Ethan stretched out ot pick up the papers to find that they were photographs. Though he looked at all four and knew there were six people, four obviously related to one another and two probably just friends, only one of the figures stood out in his mind: the fiery red-headed girl who looked to be in her teens.

I can't let this happen to them, he thought as he passed out from the pain.
