Excerpt: Essays of High School
The alarm went off, sounding louder than usual. Natalie hit the snooze without processing the action. She rolled over, pulling her pillow over her head. Maybe she could fool her alarm into thinking she was dead.
No such luck. It went off again six minutes later. As Natalie was pulling herself out of bed, she heard the bathroom door shut down the hallway. Of course, her father would choose today to get up early and would choose this exact time to use the bathroom. Grumbling unintelligibly, Natalie drifted downstairs to eat a bagel, hoping it would be enough to last until lunch since she had not eaten supper.
