Brief Author Bio: I am a wife, mother, and full-time English teacher in the Altanta area. I am also attending grad school half-time at Virginia Tech. I really don't have time for NaNoWriMo, but I am feeling the urge to write. I have previously written a novel called A Question of Honor. |

Synopsis: Quicksand
I have had a few people tell me my family stories are worthy of a book. I plan to weave together several tales from different branches of my family into a tapestry of a story set in the Kentucky mountains circa the Great Depression.
The story begins as Imogen Medley's father Jasper is booted out of the house by her mother after the straw that broke the camel's back. Five years later after Imogen's stepfather Frank is mysteriously murdered, Imogen's family is destroyed by poverty and she and Jasper make their way back to each other and try to make a family together as they try to get to the bottom of Frank's murder.
The book cover image really isn't a book cover, but it is a picture of my great-grandmother, whose face (which I miss) I use for inspiration.
Excerpt: Quicksand
Jasper’s hands shook as he took the jar of moonshine out of Cooper’s hand. He handed Cooper the lead. He turned and walked away without looking back, though he could hear the cow lowing. He knew it wasn’t close to a fair trade, and likely Delia would carry on like Jack’s mother in the story about the magic beanstalk, but there would be no happy ending with a goose that laid golden eggs. Jasper would just get tight again and have to figure out how to get more whiskey. And the cow would just be gone. She might leave this time, and Jasper had to admit she’d be right to do it.
