Synopsis: Chronicles of Faith: Light

War between angles and demons, humanity caught in the middle. The ‘good guys’ are a multinational council of scholars, knights and priests charged with protecting from the darkness/chaos of the enemy. They accomplish this goal, in part, by having their members bond with the Angelic beings who have come to help humanity survive the war. The bonding provides a beneficial bond between human and Angel, allowing both beings to use the knowledge and abilities of the other.

The enemy is not so much a group but a horde of Demonic invaders. They invade in by binding with the soul of a human. This allows them an amount of control over the faculties of the Human.

The war has taken its toll on humanity. It began when the two great nations were blossoming into the first marvels of an industrial age. However, after nearly 3,000 years of almost constant fighting, these once great nations have slid to dark age with little help of return.

Add to this the existence of three orbs of power. They appear only briefly to bond with a mortal (neither angel or demon bound) and give this individual almost limitless power. The council of "good guys" has a secret mission to harness this power for their own ends. Only, they have no idea the sort of chaos that will be unleashed when they do.

Excerpt: Chronicles of Faith: Light

Robert felt a new chill in the air. The hair on the back of his neck stood up. Robert lifted his staff, defensively. He closed his eyes and reached out with his senses. The entire area was filled with foul energy, making it difficult to detect anything useful. He opened his eyes and scanned the darkness. There was a quick rustling nearby. Robert could not tell where the noise came from, but he was sure that. They were not alone.
Softly, he spoke to Toman. “I need to release the disguise blessing. It is taking too much of my attention and besides, I doubt that this Demon cares who we are, anyway. I will keep your speed blessing active for a few moments longer. I need you to use that time to get back to the circle of power. It will protect you. I will join you as soon as I can. If this or any Demon attacks you, utter the final words of the ritual to bind the Demon to the Invocation Triangle. But remember, the triangle can hold only one demon at a time. If another Demon appears, flee through the archway. Do you understand?”
Toman nodded.
“Good. Now, Go! I will be along as soon as I can. The blessings of the LIGHT are with you.”
Toman disappeared into the darkness.
Behind us, my love, Mehiel said suddenly.
Robert swirled around. A dozen feet behind him, he saw the remains a decrypted wooden structure. The boards of the building were warped and rotten. Large holes in the side of the building allowed Robert into what must have been the eating area of the house. He could see the rotting remains of a chair and table set. Slumped in the chair and leaning over the table was the partial remains of a human corpse. The body had remained untouched by animals over the years and so was mostly intact. Its skin was pale and stretched. It was broken open in many places, revealing yellow bones or dried other, more vile, images of the person’s decaying innards.
Something did not feel right. Robert looked at the corpse with his spiritual eyes. Standing near the corpse, he saw a large emaciated Chaos Demon. Its image was that of a large insect, with six long pointed appendages coming from the center of its torso. The Demon held all six of limbs together in font of its body, giving it the look of anticipation, as it looked directly at Robert with hungry yellow eyes.
Mehiel hissed. Robert felt a serge of power coming from his Angelic companion. Robert dropped his disguise blessing but held the speed blessings to give Toman more time.
As soon as his mask fell, the Demon screamed in terror and rage. This caused the corpse to snap its eyes open. It partially opened its rotting jaw and emitted a similar cry. The Demon lunged forward. Its movement was halted quickly by what appeared to be cords of dark energy between the Demon and the corpse. The Demon tried to move forward, but the cords snapped it backward.
Robert felt powerful emotional serge between the two creatures. This was no surprise. Domination, fear and emotional manipulation are the basic tools that the Demons use to trap its human host. [The bonding process itself is made possible by an emotional struggling of the Human under the advances of the Demon. ]However, this is not what Robert saw. He saw fear and domination, but in reverse order. The Demon was afraid and the corpse was in firm domination. Robert could not believe is eyes. He had never heard of this happening before. The spiritual essence of a Chaos Demon is far too strong for a human to overcome.
