Synopsis: The Undertow

When MEGAN meets the young man she will marry and falls in love her adult life is just beginning to blossom. A childhood dream is opening. One which she never thought she would ever have access to. It was DEAN’S Grandmothers belief that her most beloved grandson would not find someone who would fit into the family. When Dean meets Megan, a young women his grandmother approves of, it is a match made in heaven.

They lived happily ever after.

No one gives instructions or indeed tells children of the life beyond the fairy tale. Megan could not know of the differences between the families belief systems and underlying structure or the intrinsically opposing life philosophy and attitudes which do not reveal themselves before their wedding day. However the wedding day reveals many things but for the sake of tradition all has to look and seem well and so these are ignored by all who attended. On the surface Dean and Megan cling to tradition, the word itself perhaps all their two families have in common and their relationship is viewed as the fruition of the fairytale. Within each event in their marriage, in private it is reviled that they come from two different worlds, two different family philosophies, two different social groups and there is the secret history hidden by Dean’s family. A history which Dean believes he has escaped, but surfaces increasingly from within and will either make or break them.

The undertow builds in strength as their life together progresses ready to draw the unwary lovers into its depths whenever disasters strike. Choices have to be made along the way and Megan finds herself drowning alone at the bottom of the emotional ocean with no one to rescue her. An event and the terror on her children’s faces forces her to make a heart rendering decision. One which will set her apart from everyone who loves her, set her apart from her community, set her apart from her own belief system, set her apart from herself.
