Excerpt: My Hero the Enemy
The taxi started to take off. Emily raised her arm to flag it down as she lunged forward on her right leg. She felt her heel slip down before she could stop her other leg from jerking forward, getting stopped short and setting her off balance. The back of her sleek black high heel was caught in the sewer grate. Perfect! She thought as she watched the taxi drive away from her, a yellow spec in a sea of traffic.
As she regained her balance, she thought about how more messed up this day could get. Not only hadn’t she won over the MacNeil account, she had lost her taxi and more than likely severely scuffed up her best black high heels. Letting out a defeated sigh she bent down to try to free her foot. The straps of these shoes ran across her foot and delicately up her ankle. At least they looked delicate. They might as well been made of steel for how they made the shoe cling to her foot. The only way out seemed to be just yanking her foot as forcefully as she could and more than likely brutalizing her shoe. It would never be the same. Although, she had a great shoe guy on the other side of town. Emily wondered what he might be able to…
Emily looked up just as the lights of the oncoming bus were mere feet in front of her. Her eyes widened and her mouth opened, readying for a scream as the huge metal box on wheels kept rushing toward her, quickly filling the small gap between them. The smell of garbage was replaced by the smell of the tires shredding themselves on the asphalt as the driver frantically pumped the brakes. Emily heard the squeal of the rubber and felt the heat from the radiator as it closed in. She closed her eyes knowing that it would probably be the last thing she ever did.
Holding her breath, she waited for the impact. She waited. And waited. Needing to take another breath, the air hissed from her lungs through her teeth and still nothing. Not that she was complaining, but was this bus ever going to hit her? Cautiously, she slit open one eye to peek through her lashes at her oncoming doom, her other eye still squenched tight. Every muscle she had, even ones she didn’t know she had, was tensed.
The sight that met her peeking eye made both eyes fly open wide in disbelief. Her body, still tensed, straightened up from the hunch she had unconsciously formed with her shoulders. The bus had stopped inches from her, but not only had it stopped, it was now hovering about three feet off the ground, the wheels spinning madly as if still trying to run her down.
What the…? Emily thought as the bus slowly turned in midair and gently landed next to her, thankfully not on top of her.
Someone shouted, “It’s Steele Fury!”
Someone else exclaimed, “He stopped that bus!”
Steele Fury? That’s all Emily needed to make her day complete. She was still yanking at her foot, trying to free her shoe when she spotted two red, knee high boots striding confidently over to her. Her eyes roved upwards and over muscled thighs that sprung from a tight, muscled stomach. Stopping momentarily at the large bulge between those thighs, Emily blushed and looked higher yet. Chest muscles rippled through the material, making every movement of the hard flesh sinfully hypnotic. Broad shoulders led to strong and massive arms.
Emily was speechless by the time he’d reached her. As he leaned down in front of her, he said, “Let me get that.” His well defined hand grabbed hold of her calf as the other grabbed hold of her shoe. In a quick movement, her shoe was freed and the spandex wearing male model stood, giving Emily a wink and then turning to stride away.
Emily still felt the warmth from his hand on her leg even though he’d walked away from her and was nowhere near. Her body wasn’t responsive to her brain yet, but it responded to his touch. She was suddenly hot. Still in shock, someone from the crowd came over to her to pull her out from the middle of the street. Safely on the sidewalk, her mental faculties started coming back.
She was just saved by Steele Fury. That bastard!
