Synopsis: Azraelle
Azraelle is the Angel of Death – but not your humanized conception of Death consisting of the long black cape covering bones and little else- but one of true angelic grace and beauty. Her main to-do’s on the Other Side consist of bringing spirits home when their life’s purposes have been fulfilled and they are ready to transition back into the afterlife. A job which keeps her busy, Azraelle has never contested the “deaths” of any human on Earth – until she is asked to bring home Sloane Sheppard. Battling a nasty divorce and an unrelenting drug habit, Sloane is barely staying afloat, let alone providing for his young daughter, Eden. As his choices continue to pull him deeper into the dark, only threatening the spiritual progress of anyone he comes in contact with – the higher ups have decided to call him home.
Azraelle, for once in her eternal life, is unable to call upon Sloane Sheppard. She witnesses this doomed man at home, reading a torn book to his daughter, and sees a faint glimmer of hope in his eyes that no soul can deny exists. Being the first Angel of Death to ever refuse the homecoming of a soul, Azraelle returns home to face the Gods and to receive punishment for not doing as she was instructed. Instead is given the ultimatum that if she shall wish to give Sloane a second chance at this life, then she is to return to Earth in human form and help him pull his life together but must do so in 30 days. Stripped of her natural healing and protective abilities, Azraelle hopes to blend in to humanity as easily as she can. One thing is for certain – she isn’t like anyone else and it’s obvious to everyone except Sloane Sheppard, who has a hard time seeing the beauty in anything.
Becoming human has its downside – such as developing emotions belonging only to humans (jealousy, hate, anger, and lust). Azraelle has never in her life experienced such a confusing mixture of emotions – nor has she ever found someone that she believed in as much as she believed in Sloane Sheppard. Dealing with these new human emotions and experiences – Azraelle is determined to give this human entity a second chance at accomplishing his life goals, something she wholeheartedly believes he has the ability to do. She also, feeling human, cannot stomach the thought of ripping a child from her father.
