Synopsis: And Other Observations
Let us go then, you and I,
When the evening is spread out against the sky
Like a patient etherised upon a table
London, 1851. J. Alfred Prufrock steps out of his house on a fine autumn morning to go visit The Great Exhibition, his mind on something else altogether; there will be tea and marmalade in the afternoon and he's not sure if he's looking forward to it.
London, 2011. Following the death of her adoptive parents, Polly's come to London for the first time in search of answers. All she has to go on is an old coat with "J. A. P." embroidered on its lapel, and a phone number. She walks into one of those cute red English phone booths (how quaint, she thinks) and dials it...
...and over in Holborn, world-weary and burnt out university student Eve Prufrock is rudely awakened on a Sunday morning by a phone call from a cousin she's never even heard of, determined to rake up details of their family's past, something Eve ran away from years ago.
It's going to be one of those days - for everyone.
