Excerpt: To Falter

It was a song he had played over and over again. It was a nameless and wordless song but it was rich with meaning. It was his song and each note came bearing a thought, a feeling, at times a question. It made sense to him as few things in the world made sense to him. Everything changed about it except for the music. The music was always the same. This morning the hopeful notes outnumbered the doubtful. A flicker of a smile adorned Nathan’s face as he played.
