Brief Author Bio:

After moving up from Texas at the age of six, Deke had written his first book, by the age of seven (or was it eight). Granted the book was only a dozen pages long, and most of the pages were his own style of illustration, but it was writing.

Ever since he has been writing off and on. Mostly beginnings, a few endings, and even fewer middles. With a handful of completed short stories under his belt, and even more years spent pondering, he approaches NaNoWriMo with slight trepidation.

If anything, at least he'll know he tried.

Synopsis: The Ghosts of Butler

All over the world, there are places where the supernatural and the mundane collide more often than elsewhere. Sometimes known as Dragon Lines, or Ley Lines, these areas of concentrated energy are known for their odd happenings.

Butler, Tennessee was built on one of these spots. At least it was until the town was flooded. Long since abandoned, the residents of Butler have forgotten their true heritage, and few know the true reason the town no longer exists.

As the world hurtles toward its so-called 'impending doom' predicted by the Mayans, the people of Butler are about to be called upon again to defend what was taken from them. With help from the local 'powers that be', Butler looks to the future with an astonished gaze.

Excerpt: The Ghosts of Butler

Where the hell am I? Why can’t I move? Why can’t I see? Think. Think. Think!

The flash from the muzzle of his sidearm. Walls covered with… was that blood? Teeth. Smoke. Haze. “She went out the window, Cahill!”

What the hell is a sidearm? Who’s Cahill? Why can’t I remember anything? What happened to me?

Slowly, Nathaniel Walker was able to feel his arms again, his legs, his fingers. All these things seemed alien to him, almost as if he had forgotten what these things were. He felt pressure all around him, every inch of his body feeling as if it were being crushed. He couldn’t even open his eyes.

I’ve been buried. That’s what it is. Buried. That sounds right. Why does this feel familiar?

Nathaniel relaxed his muscles. Floated in the dirt surrounding him. Slowly, he felt a warm glow in his chest. It crept throughout his body. Warming it. Expanding it. Growing. Spreading out.

This seemed familiar to Nathaniel. He couldn’t understand why, but he felt as if he knew what was happening; what was coming.

As the warmth grew, the sense of him growing, expanding, he felt comforted. His entire body seemed to be vibrating now, pulsing almost. He could no longer feel the ground he was in. He was so much bigger than the ground could ever be. Faster and faster he vibrated, cell against cell, through his entire body, humming with energy.

A rushing sound filled his ears, deafening him from the silence that had surrounded him for what seemed like years. Yes, this felt right. This was how things were supposed to be. Faster, almost as if he was the heartbeat of the earth.

Now.
