Synopsis: Life is Funny (working title)
Life gets ugly for a while when a teenage girl learns that her father is a key member of an organized crime ring. She takes it to the authorities, and that now thousands of professional criminals (and murderers) now want her head.
The next thing she knows, she's been captured and is a prisoner in her own home. The "good guys" manage to get her out again, but not before she's been beaten up by the guards and shot by her father.
And if that wasn't complicated enough, all of that happened before the novel starts. Now she's in Witness Protection, traumatized, paranoid, and essentially alone. She's trying to start her life over, but it's slow going, and then the crime ring finds her again...
Excerpt: Life is Funny (working title)
Suddenly he grinned at her, looking as boyish and contented as she had ever seen him, even if his eyes still smoldered with hatred. His smile, sharp like the blade of a knife, gleamed in the flickering firelight. “So how did I do, Sage? Was that every bit as melodramatic and terrifying as the villains in the novels we read?”
