Excerpt: The Bicyclist

Art has been a part of my life since my birth. Mother had been a painter, then. She'd cover my walls with her paintings, murals that she'd just as soon change on a whim as she would on one of mine. I'd grown up with the smell of paint, soft and musky, lingering on all of my mother's clothes. So though I was never really artistic, that had become the basis of all my childhood memories.

And art was a part of her life, too, ever since she first discovered it. I suppose that must be what brought us together, in the end.
