Synopsis: Purviews of Magnetism

Shields Koen has been working as an assistant to ARK's President for 4 and a half months due to her Aunt's connection with the late President and has been recognized for her talent for researching. She was initially taken in as an assistant to Fai Douglas - the Head of the Science and Reseach Department - but was recognized for her skills and promoted. She has been missing parts of her childhood and teenage years due to a traumatic event which she has no recollection of but has learned to put up a front and live with it. She now just tries to enjoy her work as an assistant to the most intimidating man in the world.

Alan Kail is the President and sole heir of ARK Incorporated. Clam, cool, and ruthless when it comes to business, he is the ultimate corporate head honcho. His looks add flair to his otherwise stuck up persona. He had met Shields earlier during his inauguration speech as Vice President and was somewhat in her debt for saving his life from an assassination attempt. He finds her paradoxical nature a nice change of pace compared to the other women he had encountered. He later then introduces her to his recently employed bodyguard, Joan Cameo, since she would more or less be working with her.

Things get complicated after a failed attempt in kidnapping ARK's President. Add that to the corporate conspiracies that one of the executives had unearthed, Shields and Alan's lives are suddenly thrown into a whirlwind of situations as they land in Berlin. For Shields, it was just an opportunity to travel whereas for Alan, it meant business. The kind of business where their lives depended on the success of it.

Excerpt: Purviews of Magnetism

“Yes sir”

This has been, and will always be, the line your boss expects from you. May he be a restaurant manager or a well-renowned President of the largest company in the world; this would be the response he would expect from any employee. Of course this would be followed by “Can I help you with anything else?” or “Do you want a cup of coffee” or even “I’m sorry sir. It won’t happen again”. The last part was something you tried to avoid at all costs. Why? Because that guarantees being a recipient of your boss’ infamous Death Glare which promised no further reprimand but something dire sooner or later. Luckily, I haven’t been on the receiving end of that one…yet.

“Ms. Koen”

Yikes! Spoke too soon.
