Synopsis: January (working title)

Earth has been destroyed. The remaining humans have left this galaxy on 2 ships to search for a new home, each with conflicting governing bodies. Feeling alienated from his own family, the hero runs from his royal life, causing a political firestorm that spirals the two ships to the brink of war.

Excerpt: January (working title)

The child was not supposed to be female. The captain stood motionless, holding the child in his arms, staring serenely into her wide, dark eyes. The hospital bay around him was loud, and busy. Panicked shouts. Forceful commands. The high-pitched whine of a flat-lining heart monitor. The Captain heard none of this, only the soft cooing of the newborn child. He was in his own world, separated from the madness. All he could see or hear was the child. It felt as if all of his emotions flowed through him simultaneously as he looked into her eyes. Heartache. Sorrow. Pain. Anger. Love. But mainly confusion.
