Excerpt: The Daughter of Some Other God

When the police was cutting away the remains of her car to get to her, she thought that it probably was her mistake. Of course it was her mistake. She never looked at signs when driving. She just knew that this is a one way road, so she drove on simply sparing a glance to the right as she always did. Funny thing that, for now, she was alive. And the truck driver was definitely not. She was trapped in her car, but she could still see his bloodied body on the road. Maria closed her eyes, she wasn't ready for this, she was a waste of a living space, and yet she just killed another human.
She felt panic. She will go to jail, she realized. She will go to jail for a murder. That was probably the worst thing that would happen, they won't give her the death penalty, not for the road accident. But she will be in the jail, for many years. She tried to think if this made any difference to her, but no. Her body was in pain, she felt pain for being the person to kill another human, but other than that she didn't give a damn. Maybe she could just die. She felt blood tickling down her face and neck. Maybe she just should go to sleep never to wake up again. Who would have done this? She asked herself, who would purposely go to sleep never to wake up again.
All the noises coming from the police cars, the ambulances and the shouts of the firemen. She wished they would just go quiet. Her head hurt. Maria slowly drifted to sleep while other people were trying to get to her, to save her life.
