Excerpt: Spectrum

"Coca-cola, Pepsi or Dr. Pepper?" Scott asked dully, bored.

"Coca-cola." Parker replied, equally bored.

Scott raised a brow. "Really? I'd have picked Dr. Pepper..." He mused, drumming his fingers on the table.

"That's nice."

Scott sighed heavily, folding his arms across the table and resting his head upon them. "An axe or a sword?" He inquired, fully aware that this was mostly pointless.

"Axe," Parker replied, staring up at the ceiling.

"Oooh, me too..."

Parker's mouth twitched into a half smile. "Coffee grinder or teapot?" He asked, laughing to himself a bit at his ridiculous question.

"...what?" Scott blinked, confused.

"You heard me," Parker said with a slight grin.

"Isn't that like 'coffee or tea' but for machinery?" Scott wondered, still somewhat confused.

"Pretty much, yeah," Parker said with a nod.

"Okay... teapot. It's easier to hit people with."

Parker blinked, his amusement replaced with something that could only be classed with 'wait, what?' He slowly looked over at Scott, who didn't seem to notice how odd his response had been, brow furrowed and eyes bewildered.

Scott blinked twice. "Something wrong?" He asked obliviously.

"...no. Not at all." Parker lied blatantly, not giving any elaboration on why he seemed to be mocking his good (albeit apparently slightly psychopathic) friend.
