Excerpt: Broken

“What the heck happened?”
“I got attacked,” mumbled Heath.
Piper lowered her head, supporting the ice pack on Heath’s face. “My bad. We were messing around, and I bashed in his eye with a wrench.”
“But that’s not all,” said Heath, gleefully. “I also smacked my head into the car hood when she startled me.”
“That wasn’t my fault! I take full responsibility for the wrench, but not for asking a question--”
“If you were so sorry you wouldn’t be arguing right now, would you?” he interrupted, fighting a grin. Oh, it was so fun to push her buttons.
“It’s not my fault. You can’t be mad for that, it’s not fair. So shut up before I give you another shiner.”
