Excerpt: Carry Me to the End

Brandon climbed out of his car and started walking toward the house. “Get out,” I told him; making sure each word was laced with enough venom to kill.
“Whatcha gonna do?” he asked smartly. He made it the rest of the way up the steps and laced his fingers around my throat. My feet left the ground in the next second. I pulled my knee up and tried to kick him. But he jerked me up more, knocking the rest of the air out of me. “You’re going to have to try harder than that if you want to hurt me,” he whispered, close to my face.
I was running out of air and running out of energy. I can’t fight back anymore, I told myself.
Brandon let go of my neck and slammed me into the glass front door. It instantly shattered and covered me with broken glass. Blood began pouring from my fresh, open wounds.
“She’s yours now,” Brandon said cruelly to Mikey. He laughed, walked back to his car, and drove off.
Blood was dripping down my face. My arms and legs had gone numb. Mikey knelt into the broken glass and scooped me up into his arms. He walked through the gaping hole where the front door had once been.
Questions flung through the air as soon as we made it into the living room.
“Someone call an ambulance. She’s losing too much blood,” Mikey yelled.
