Excerpt: Broken Mirrors: A series of short stories

He burst through the door, letting moonlight follow him into the shed. Lazarus dug through the books and papers littering the shack until he found it. A small red book, not quite leather-bound but definitely a fleshy feel upon the cover. The red being an unnatural shade that left the mind wandering into fantasies of blood mixing in a deep pool. He smiled and flipped through the pages, trying to find the proper text. A new light, the light from a candle begun to sneak about the only window of the building. Then a silhouette of a man peered in and started for the door. He turned toward it and pocketed the tome. He dug into his jacket pocket until he found it, a Ruger, still had three shots left. The light made it to the door and he fired a shot into the figure. Lazarus stepped over the body and started for his Motorcycle when he heard an perverted groan behind him.
