Excerpt: Just a Job
>>>>"Stop right where you are Danni. Don't make me shoot. Please."
"You're gonna have to Billy. I'm not going with you and your buddies." She looked over at John.
He nodded at her, letting her know that he was with her.
She knew he's had enough too.
"Please Danni, please?"
She could hear the tears in Billy's words. She smiled a sad smile as she nodded to John. They both raised their guns to shoot one last time. She felt bad for John, but he knew the score. A person has to learn when enough is enough, and the time was now.
She didn't hear Billy give the order to fire. She didn't feel the first bullet hit her, she fired off a shot. Actually she shot up, so that she didn't hit anyone. She didn't want to hurt anyone anymore. She felt a heat shear through her stomach. She fired off another shot. The impact of another bullet pushed her back two steps. She saw John go down. "I'm sorry old buddy." She whispered, as a bullet penatrated her thigh, dropping her to her one knee. She fired one last shot as one last bullet slammed into her chest. Danni collasped.
All was quiet. She stared up at the clouds. They were beautiful. When was the last time she actually looked at them. Danni tried to draw in a breath. She gurgled as blood dripped down her cheek. It hurt to breathe. The birds started to chirp again. She smiled a small little smile. They sounded wonderful.
Billy knelt next to her. "Why Danni? All you had to do was put down your guns."
She allowed her eyes to focus on to Billy's sweet face.
"I love you." Danni smiled, finally in peace. Her yellow eyes closed. Her time done, she's had enough. Life goes on.
