Blue Freak
an excerpt
Midnight
Somewhere in the north Atlantic the winds were gathering into a spin around a deep depression in an area so remote that its effects would not be felt by humans until days later. The ancient computers would know, though. Chunking out pressure variants and wind directions and even wave predictions for nonexistent mariners and pilots. But the people who would be devastated by the storm’s power did still exist and it was a shame that they wouldn’t be hanging out at the abandoned computer stations, watching the rainbow colored screens predict catastrophe. Because if they had, they might have been able to avoid the devastation, or at least not be present to suffer the brunt of the impact. But then again. It might not have made any difference at all . . .
