Ploof/Bones of Time/Enigma
an excerpt
His eyes were on her face, even as he drove away from the site of the now-burning wreckage, watching her warily even as her eyes slid shut and her breathing evened out. After a lengthy pause, where soft musical classical music played in place of words, Damien opened his mouth to speak.
Enigma beat him to the punch, though, by holding up her hand, looking at him with soft silver yees. “Please don't,” she whispered, voice raspy and raw from hours of not talking and crying. “I don't think I want to hear it.”
“I . . . I was just going to say,” he said, voice quiet, turning his eyes away from her witha great deal of appanrent effort, turning them back to the road, hesitating slightly. “This wasn't what I'd een expecting to happen.”
“What do you mean?” She asked, mimicking the tone of his voice, shifting the broken leg as it began to heal itself.
“I mean, look at you!” The tall, dark haired man exclaimed, his mask of frusteration hidden by the lightless state of the dark country road. “You're gorgeous by human standards, a princess on your land, a warrior, a shape shifter-” Here Enigma started, awed that knew so much about her. “- and you've done nothing to recitify the situation that you're in!”
She sighed, raking her hair back with a shaking hand, displaying a large purplish bruise that hadn't been caused by the crash, letting her hair fall back into place. “I've done nothing to recitify the situation because I can't,” she patiently explained, eyes still calm, tone of voice a little bit irked. “My space ship's crashed, I'm stuck on a helpless planet with no means of communication, except for my watch, and I can't even tell what everybody's thinking about me because I'm not used to such a whirlwind of ideas!” She snapped at him, body rigid in the seat, knuckles white with the exhaustion she was fighting. “So excuse me if I'm scared! This is your job, your right to protect me, and there's nobody on this God - forsaken planet that can help me more than you can!”
